Upholstered Headboards

Headboards help add a finished touch to any bed. When the bed just consists of a frame, it appears incomplete, as it looks just like a mattress floating there. The upholstered headboards give you something to prop pillows and other items against, which is important if the bed is not positioned against a wall. It is also a helpful item for holding onto when climbing into bed and an excellent design feature.

Of course, there are many different makes and models of head boards, ranging from metal, to wood and upholstered headboards. Upholstered headboards have a cloth covering, or at least a padding over the wood or metal material. If you’re bed does not come with a headboard and you are interested in adding such as feature to your bedroom, there are several options available for locating the perfect style of headboard.

Visit the store you purchased the bed. Most beds have additional options and features, including headboards. You want to try to find a headboard made for your bed in particular as the construction style is going to fit better. If you have a metal bed frame you don’t want a headboard consisting of wood and leather. This just seems off and doesn’t fit esthetically.

This holds true for the color of the headboard. If the metal frame is a dark brown you don’t want a headboard of bright red. This creates a miss-match look, drawing undesired attention to the headboard and frame which immediately informs anyone that the two pieces do not belong together.

If you’re unable to find any suitable upholstered headboards from the store you purchased the bed from, there are several Internet pages that offer upholstered headboards. These websites include Amazon.com, Overstock.com and even WorldMarket.com.

Amazon and Overstock have a wider range of headboards that fit most styles, while World Market is an excellent option if you want a wood backing with leather upholstery. The down side to World Market’s website is it tends to be a bit on the pricey side. These headboards originate from all over the world and are often hand crafted, so you never really know how much it is going to cost you, but generally speaking it is more than most other competitors.

With Amazon and Overstock, there are two features you need to be on the look out. Firstly, make sure the headboard fits the overall size of your current bed. You don’t want to purchase a king size headboard when you have a full size bed. The headboard is going to be well over a foot too long for the bed and may appear a bit odd. The second is the actual materials the headboard is made out of.

Photographs are a bit deceiving and what looks like leather upholstery may actually be fo-leather. This brings down the price for the product, but up close fo-leather often looks incredibly fake and cheap. If most of it is covered with pillows this shouldn’t bee a problem, but as is the case with most bedrooms, the bed is the focal point of the room and should look the best.

For high-end headboards for your bedroom, try out Crate and Barrel. This website has some of the most stylish and elegant designs available, but it is going to cost you. These designs are often extremely expensive, as the products are made out of the best materials possible.

If you want to draw interest from anyone that sees your headboard, definitely go with an item from Crate and Barrel, but if you are on a budget, opt for something else. You also really need to have a Crate and Barrel store nearby if you want to purchase something online. They shipping for objects is pricey (mostly due to the weight of the product), and even though the company does provide a shipping service for items purchased, you must be withing a 50 mile delivery zone of the nearest store, otherwise you are out of luck.

Most major cities have a Crate and Barrel though, so if you are near a major metropolitan area, give Crate and Barrel at least a peak. On occasion they do feature sales to help counteract the high prices.
